Steve Rowe is the President and Chief Executive Officer of Newtrient. Newtrient is a business collective of the leading U.S. dairy farmer cooperatives, Dairy Management, Inc. and the National Milk Producers Federation. Newtrient and its founding members are committed to helping dairy farmers reduce their environmental footprint and generate economic return for the valuable nutrients and other products they produce.


From 2005 to 2015, Steve was the General Counsel and Senior Vice President, Corporate Affairs, for the Northwest Dairy Association (NDA), a 500+ member farmer-owned dairy cooperative, and Darigold, Inc., its wholly-owned processor and marketer of NDA members’ milk.


Steve has served as Vice Chair of the Northwest Food Processors Association, as an Advisor to the Board of Dairy Management Inc. and on the Sustainability Council for the Innovation Center for U.S. Dairy. He is a committee member of National Milk Producer Federation’s (NMPF) Environmental Issues Task Force, and a member of NMPF’s Government Relations and Public Affairs Group. He has been active in the National Council of Farmer Cooperatives (NCFC), serving on the Executive Committee of the Legal, Tax and Accounting Committee and Vice Chair of the Cooperative Structures Subcommittee. He is a Fellow of the National Association of Corporate Directors and has served as a Director of the Washington State Council of Farmer Cooperatives.


Steve’s legal practice spans 30 years, nearly half of which has been in private environmental and corporate practice and the rest as in-house counsel to large national and global organizations. Creative solutions that drive economic prosperity, a strong sense of community, and a commitment to environmental stewardship have been the standards he has sought to bring to every client and company with which he has worked.


Steve is passionate about telling agriculture’s good story and helping the industry prepare for its current and future challenges of feeding the world with healthy, sustainable foods.


He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Natural Resources from the University of Michigan and a law degree from the University of Utah. He lives in Chicago with his wife, Lynn. They have three college-age children, Ethan, Adam and Emma.
