Technology Description:

Trident’s proprietary bedding recovery system is specifically designed to recover and recycle the large coarse fibers from liquid livestock waste. The conditioning and coarse fiber separation is achieved with the Trident Rotary Screen. In the second step the Trident Screw Press is utilized to dewater the captured fiber. The result is clean and dry premium bedding material with 35% dry matter.


Recycling fiber as bedding is an excellent way to promote animal health and comfort, and it represents a significant cost savings for the farm operation. The system can cover all of a farm’s bedding needs, reducing manure management costs and eliminating the need to purchase bedding from external suppliers.


The affordable, fully automated system can be operated 24/7 and is scalable for dairy operations of all sizes (250 – 15,000+ cows). It is provided as a turn-key system including pumps, conveyor, stainless steel platform and PLC. The system can be combined with existing sand removal systems and is available for dairies with or without anaerobic digesters. The bedding system can also be integrated with Trident’s Nutrient Recovery System to maximize its benefits.

Coarse solids separation technologies:

  • Produces fiber for bedding, soil amendment and compost
  • Used extensively on dairies across the country to reduce storage and application concerns
  • Does not significantly reduce nutrients from the manure stream
  • Can utilize many types of technology like slope screen, screw press, rotary drum and others
  • Used before many other technologies to remove coarse solids
  • Minimal maintenance and operator time required


Trident markets their combination of a rotary drum separator and screw press as a bedding recovery system based their experience that the selection of the longest fiber allows for the use of manure solids for bedding without heat treatment. This equipment is built to operate reliably on farm and does not require a great deal of attention. Use of the manure based bedding from this system will require more attention than some other bedding options.
