Bob Hickey

Dr. Hickey has over 40 years of experience in the water, wastewater treatment, and renewable energy fields in the areas of applied research, development, demonstration and commercial application. He has built a career around bio-based renewable fuel, energy systems, and waste management systems for industry and municipalities with an emphasis on anaerobic treatment technology.

Dr. Hickey has extensive experience in full-scale system design, start-up, operations and troubleshooting of conventional and innovative biological based treatment and production systems. He has been successful in translating laboratory and pilot scale research and development into full-scale application.

Dr. Hickey serves as a Senior Consultant for many different companies large and small, including Waste Management, Diageo, Bacardi, and various environmental consulting firms such as Environ-Ramboll, HDR, Merrick and a number of start-up firms in the biotech field such as Microvi, Mango Materials, Synata and Trelys. Dr. Hickey has also worked with various venture capital groups to provided technical support for the evaluation of potential technology acquisitions. He is also the technical lead for demonstration projects involving the testing of processes for converting food waste residuals into an engineered, consistent product for use as a supplement to enhance biogas production from municipal digesters. His work has led to the implementation of four current projects for co-digestion of food wastes in major cities in New York, Massachusetts, and California

Dr. Hickey is author of more than 50 publications and 20 patents, along with a number of pending patents. He has a B.E. degree in Mechanical Engineering and a M.E. degree in Environmental Engineering from Manhattan College, as well as a Ph.D. degree in Environmental Engineering from University of Massachusetts Amherst.
