Technology Description:

Anaergia provides solutions for farms and food processors to reduce waste disposal costs using proprietary anaerobic solutions that recover resources from high strength wastewater and organic solids. They are currently focused on three specific areas renewable energy, nutrient management and water reuse.  

Renewable Energy - Convert solid organic waste and high strength wastewater into renewable base load electricity or renewable fuel.  

Nutrient Management - Integrated solutions that recover nitrogen, phosphorous and potassium from waste streams and convert them into natural high quality fertilizer.  

Water Reuse - Treat the water recovered from waste streams for farm irrigation or industrial process water.

  Anaergia constructed the AD system at Michigan State University which takes organic material from the food service areas of the University as well as the University dairy herd. The solids from the system are used for bedding on the University farm as well as for soil amendment.  

Based on recent discussions with Anaergia, Newtrient has learned that they are reconsidering their participation in agricultural markets.  Anaergia has expressed interest marketing their digestion technology, and also their phosphorus removal, ammonia stripping and biochar technologies.The phosphorus, ammonia and biochar technologies, are currently only deployed in Germany.  Based on these discussions and recent conversations with prospective Anaergia clients, Newtrient believes that Anaergia is once again active in the agricultural space.

Anaergia will be evaluated using Newtrient's 9-point scoring process and Newtrient will add information on their phosphorus removal, ammonia stripping and biochar technologies as information becomes available and North American installations commence.
