CH4 Biogas, LLC – Complete Mix Digester

Renewable Energy & A Better Environment

About the Company:

Paul Toretta, Bob Blythe and Bigadan A/S formed CH4 Biogas, LLC in 2008 in response to market demand for anaerobic digestion and alternative energy in the United States. The Company has exclusive rights to market, supply, manufacture, install and use Bigadan technology in the United States. CH4 Biogas has a mature and experienced management team, a proven technology and business model, a pipeline of developed projects and access to debt financing guarantees.

About the Solution:

CH4 Biogas plants produce renewable energy by anaerobically digesting livestock manure and food-grade organic wastes. CH4 Biogas' partner, Bigadan A/S, pioneered the co-digestion concept that has been the operating model for the Danish biogas industry for over 25 years.

CH4 Biogas has North American rights to the refined Danish anaerobic digestion technology that has been used by Bigadan A/S for 25 years. Bigadan’s design includes some unique features compared to many other technologies such as slow, continuous mixing of the digester vessel from top to bottom using paddles that extend off a vertical shaft.  The paddles reach almost to vessel wall.  Another is pasteurization of digester influent before added to the digester thus adding flexibility to post AD effluent.  Heat from the digester effluent is captured using large heat exchangers and used to pre-heat digester influent.  There is no heating in the digester vessel eliminating the need to service heating pipes in-vessel.

CH4 Biogas’s targeted projects are ones that include meaningful amounts of organic matter imported to the farm.  Organic matter is sourced from food processors, storage facilities (cull products), and post-retailer wastes.  CH4 has a team that sources these materials for their biogas plants. The CH4 Biogas digester located on Synergy Farm, LLC (Covington, NY) was monitored using the EPA digester monitoring protocol and a final report is available here.
