Clean Energy Fuels – RNG Partnerships

About the Company:

Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) is a transportation fuel made from organic waste. It drastically reduces carbon emissions by an average of 300% versus diesel, and at a fraction of the fuel cost. Unlike conventional natural gas, RNG is not a fossil fuel and does not involve drilling.

Clean Energy pioneered RNG as a vehicle fuel in the U.S. and continue to be North America’s largest provider of RNG for the transportation industry.

When organic matter decays, it naturally produces methane: one of the greenhouse gases most detrimental to the environment. By capturing the methane, Clean Energy Fuels prevent it from entering and damaging the atmosphere. Then, they turn it into the cleanest fuel in the world.

Their ultraclean RNG powers heavy-duty trucks and buses, replacing dirty diesel and gasoline. When combined with the latest natural gas engines, RNG is a zero-emissions solution certified by the EPA and the California Air Resources Board.

The beauty of RNG is that it reduces carbon on two fronts: at the source where it’s made and on the road. That’s why it’s able to achieve such a low carbon intensity rating. RNG is the only alternative fuel that can avoid more emissions than it generates.

About the Solution:

Clean Energy pioneered the use of RNG as a vehicle fuel and they continue to be the largest provider of RNG for the transportation industry today. Their team will guide you through the process of financing, developing, and operating anaerobic digesters. And they have hundreds of natural gas fueling stations nationwide where vehicle fleets can easily access your RNG.

Clean Energy wants to forge lasting partnerships with dairies because they truly believe that RNG is the most sustainable solution for the transportation industry. Their extensive portfolio of fleet customers does too, and there is a growing demand for RNG.

Rapid Distribution

Partner with Clean Energy and you’ll work directly with the people who bring your product to market. With 540 natural gas fueling stations nationwide, including 65 in California, they provide the shortest path from farm to fleet.

High Demand

Clean Energy has the largest portfolio of fleet customers fueling with them—from major shippers like Amazon and UPS, to the largest transit agencies in the country, like the LA Metro and the NYMTA

Experts in RNG Pathways

They’re the largest RNG provider under California’s Low Carbon Fuel Standard (LCFS) program, so they know all about establishing the legal and regulatory avenues to get RNG from farms to stations, and how to create and monetize environmental credits.

Financing Support

Clean Energy is actively investing in RNG development projects across the country. By partnering with companies who share in their vision, like Total and bp, they have access to over $500 million in funding.

NOTE: There are multiple technologies that are used as part of integrated manure management systems and yet are not manure management types on their own. The impact of these technologies on their own would be minimal or very difficult to quantify.

General Support & Other:

  • Can be an integral part of many manure management systems
  • Most projects have at least some equipment that supports operations of the main technology
  • This technology is not evaluated on its own, the NEAT Matrix for this technology is neutral unless utilized with other technologies.
