Ductor Corporation – Anaerobic Digestion

A HIGHLY EFFICIENT BIOTECH SOLUTION FOR BIOGAS PRODUCERS

About the Company:

Ductor Corporation is a biotechnology innovator providing biogas operators with a unique portfolio of proprietary, patented and tested technologies for improving the profitability and stability of their biogas businesses.

Ductor’s vision is to secure efficient waste management and sustainable food and energy production based on recycling.

Ductor has a mission to revolutionize biogas plant economics and promote biogas as one of the most important renewable energy sources, while supplying important food production components as fertilizers in a sustainable way.

About the Solution:

Ductor® fermentation technology prevents ammonia inhibition in biogas production.

This is done by adding one fermentation step, prior to biogas fermentation, as well as a nitrogen stripping unit. Ductor’s patented microbiological innovation eliminates the nitrogen dilemma by turning problem waste into profitable recyclable goods.

The technology can be applied to biogas plants of many different sizes, and unit operations do not require skills beyond normal biogas plant operations.

Ductor Corp. can provide both a total biogas plant or an Add-On Ductor process to extract nitrogen to an existing biogas plant.

Solution Strengths, Weaknesses and Critical Indicators

Ammonia-N can be harvested from manure and digestate using proven chemical/thermal processes:

  • Produces a concentrated source of nitrogen from a renewable source
  • Requires pre-treatment to remove coarse and fine solids
  • Pairs well with anaerobic digesters because digesters convert organic N into ammonium
  • Chemical storage required for process chemicals and final product
  •  Proven technology for nitrogen recovery, odor control, and pathogen reduction

Newtrient Comments/Opinions:

Ammonia-N can be harvested from manure using proven chemical/thermal processes.

  • Produces a concentrated source of nitrogen from a renewable source
  • Requires pre-treatment to remove coarse and fine solids
  • Pairs well with anaerobic digesters because digesters make more ammonia available
  • Chemical storage required for process chemicals and final product
Ductor has not been evaluated using Newtrient's 9-point scoring process because, although their process appears to be suited for use on dairy manure, Newtrient is not aware of any current dairy based projects in North America.
