SWECO – Decanter Centrifuge

About the Company:

SWECO is a manufacturer of customized industrial separation equipment. They manufacture round, rectangular and pharmaceutical separators plus several lines of complementary separation products; centrifuges, grinding mills, finishing mills and a wide variety of aftermarket screens and parts.

SWECO has 9 manufacturing or service facilities and over 100 sales offices surrounding the globe. Headquartered in Florence, KY, USA, SWECO also maintains manufacturing or service facilities in Belgium, Scotland, Italy, India, China and Singapore, as well as a joint venture in Mexico, and a licensee in Australia. With this type of global presence SWECO can provide you with their best service no matter where you are located.

About the Solution:

SWECO's high-speed, high-performance decanter centrifuges are ruggedly built for industrial service and are created to be effective in environmentally sensitive areas. With robust construction and corrosion-resistant materials, SWECO centrifuges are designed to provide long service lives and have low maintenance costs.

414 & 518

SWECO's 414 and 518 high speed, decanter centrifuges deliver high recovery rates and efficient solids separation to significantly reduce disposal costs or reclaim valuable material from process streams. The SWECO 414 and 518 centrifuges are precision-balanced for smooth operation over long periods at high RPM speeds, generating extremely high G-forces.

Features of these centrifuges include rugged construction and corrosion-resistant materials; three-port feed tube; back drive speed adjustable from -18 to +85 RPMs; and tungsten carbide scroll points.

The SWECO 414 and 518 centrifuges have the flexibility to adapt to almost any solids separation application and are ideal for environmentally sensitive areas.

CD500 & CD600

The SWECO CD500 and CD600 decanter Centrifuges boast infinite speed adjustability of main bowl drive and backdrive (differential). Utilizing variable frequency drives on all motors allows low amperage start-ups and eliminates troublesome sheave changes. Stainless steel wetted parts, tungsten carbide hard facing on bowl and scroll, as well as superior gearbox construction make the CD500 and CD600 durable and rugged.

The SWECO CD500 and CD600 centrifuges have the flexibility to adapt to almost any solids separation application and are ideal for high volume dewatering applications.

Solution Strengths, Weaknesses and Critical Indicators

Centrifuge Technologies remove the non-dissolved particles from the waste stream typically resulting in a lower solid liquid that will not plug equipment or irrigation quality “tea water” depending on whether the technology is used with or without polymer:

  • Produces a stackable solid which is high in phosphorus and with significant amounts of organic nitrogen.
  • There is significant variation of energy use depending on the site and by technology
  • There is significant variation of operational intensity depending on site, use of polymer, and by technology
  • There is significant variation of cost depending on site, use of polymer, and by technology
  • Can be used with or without polymer. Recovery rates and impact on critical indicators are better when used with polymer.
  • Proven technology for nitrogen recovery, phosphorous recovery, storage reduction, GHG reduction, and odor control

Newtrient Comments/Opinions:

SWECO has recently been added to the Newtrient catalog. Newtrient will continue to work with SWECO to further refine the cost and performance information on their solution. Newtrient will update this entry as more information becomes available and as new commercial dairy installations come online.
