In-Vessel Composting
The Dairy Soil & Water Regeneration project has launched a new website offering detailed project insights, research partner profiles, preliminary findings, and updates on ongoing work and upcoming events.
Manure solids are gaining popularity on dairy farms as a sustainable, readily available bedding option that promotes a closed-loop system. Proper management of recycled solids is crucial to maintain optimal cow health, focusing on monitoring bacteria levels and ensuring the material stays dry.
Newtrient examined the efficacy of an in-vessel composting system—commonly referred to as drum composting— in producing high quality dairy bedding from recycled manure solids and its positive impacts on water quality.
