About the Solution:

Renewable Dairy Fuels, is an Amp Americas subsidiary in charge of deal sourcing and origination within the dairy industry. They carefully evaluate all of the important information that determines the success of a project including estimating the CI score and gas  production, end-to-end development & commissioning managing the relationship with the farm and the safety of the entire project.

Amp Renew Offtake, a second Amp Americas subsidiary, utilizes the expertise of its engineering team as well as industry experts to ensure pathway registration is accurate and complies with all applicable requirements. It works with ICF Resources, L.L.C. (“ICF”) on LCFS pathway matters and with Weaver and Tidwell, L.L.P. (“Weaver”) to register and provide QAP services for RIN pathways. The team generates credits on behalf of dispensing and offtake partners and has experience transferring credits within the LRT and EMTS systems. Amp also manages the QAP for RINs and on-going compliance reporting for the EPA and CARB. It markets RINs and LCFS credits directly to obligated parties and through brokers using spot market transactions and forward sales. Amp Renew Offtake is also involved in the marketing and monetization of RNG from other developers. Utilizing its own extensive dispensing pipeline and relationships, Amp Renew Offtake provides RNG placement into California’s competitive CNG, LNG, and hydrogen markets. Amp handles RFS and ARB registration, credit generation, on-going compliance obligations and monetization of RIN and LCFS credits for its marketing partners.

Amp RNG Services, the third Amp Americas subsidiary, has been involved in the development and operation of RNG processing facilities since 2011.  We are uniquely qualified to offer O&M and Asset Management services for your digester and upgrading plant based on our history of development, design, construction, and operations management of similar systems.  Amp’s turnkey O&M solution includes management oversight as well as administrative and engineering support to operate and maintain the digester, gas conditioning, and upgrading facility which will produce RNG for export to the pipeline connection and transfer point.  Paired with Amp Renew Offtake, we can offer a one-stop shop for your RNG production and monetization needs.

Solution Strengths, Weaknesses and Critical Indicators

Anaerobic Digester Associated Technology:

NOTE: There are several technology types that are used as part of an integrated manure management system that includes an anaerobic digester and are not applicable to manure management in other cases. The impact of these technologies on the critical indicators are represented as those of an entire anaerobic digester system.

  • Long usable life and can be run reliably
  • Creates energy and generates environmental credits
  • Requires proper preparation of the feedstock
  • Requires other technologies for energy utilization
  • Requires other technologies for digestate handling
  • Proper feeding & system monitoring is required to avoid system downtime
  • Proven technology for odor control, GHG reduction and pathogen reduction

Newtrient Comments/Opinions:

Founded in 2011, Amp Americas (“Amp”) was the first developer of a dairy manure-to-RNG fuel project in the country that was registered under the U.S. EPA’s Renewable Fuel Standard (“RFS”) and the California Air Resources Board’s (“CARB”) Low Carbon Fuel Standard (“LCFS”). Thus Amp Americas received the first dairy waste-to-vehicle fuel pathway certified by California’s Air Resources Board (“CARB”) and successfully registered the first five California dairy RNG pathways. Among other development accomplishments, Amp secured gas rights, selected the gas purification technology, installed and commissioned the gas purification equipment, interconnected to NIPSCO’s (a division of NiSource Inc.) pipeline system, and registered the project with the RFS and LCFS. In 2018, Amp funded, developed and commissioned two other dairy biogas projects, tripling its aggregate dairy RNG fuel production. In 2020, Amp commissioned three (3) new manure-to-RNG production facilities in Minnesota.  Its fourth biogas facility producing renewable natural gas (RNG) from dairy waste is now operational and has begun delivering RNG into the Alliance natural gas pipeline to be used as transportation fuel. Located in Morris, Minnesota near the state's western border, the new plant is Amp Americas' largest dairy RNG project to date and the state's first on-farm biogas-to-vehicle fuel facility. As of 2021, they have developed RNG projects processing waste from over 100,000 cows across 10 farms in Minnesota, Indiana and Idaho, and they operate several of the largest dairy biogas-to-renewable gas facilities in the U.S.
