Aquafix – VitaStim Manure – Manure Digesting Bacteria

Create Better Effluent

About the Company:

Aquafix is dedicated to investigating the whole spectrum of wastewater issues. The knowledge they gain from their research is used to develop natural and sustainable biotechnologies.

Aquafix is continuously studying the bacterial communities that benefit wastewater applications. The products they create play off the strengths and weakness of those communities. All of their products and bacterial cultures are produced or fermented in-situ in their facility. The strains grown at Aquafix are selected for their ability to sustain themselves and work in harmony with wastewater biomass.

Aquafix develops each product to solve the root cause of wastewater issues. They strongly believe in not just providing a Band-Aid© or cover-up, but taking out the source cause of each filament, foam, surfactant, hydrogen sulfide, settling, and ammonia issue. The key to their success is nutrition. They provide the right nutrients and stimulants to give the bacteria the “tools” they need to degrade the specific problem agent. This is how they can truly tailor each product to each wastewater issue.

About the Solution:

Aquafix’s knowledge of how to degrade complex wastes in lagoons has helped them to create innovative biological treatments for manure lagoons as well. Manure tends to consist of the material that is most resistant to biological breakdown, which is how it made it through the animal. This means complex catalysts, bacterial cultures, and their cofactors, are required to achieve the desired results. With Aquafix’s Vitastim line, a decade of research into lagoon waste is applied to help benefit your operation.

VitaStim Manure Supplement works on manure waste to help return nitrogen from the manure back to the soil, while reducing sludge, foam, and odors.

Bacteria use ammonia, phosphate, and other nutrients to build their cells. By using naturally occurring safe organisms that uptake ammonia and phosphate at high rates in anaerobic and facultative environments, the bacteria will fixate the nutrients into their cells. As these cultures grow and reproduce they uptake more and more nutrients from the manure waste and reduce the amount of solids and odor that is generated. In addition Aquafix's products use ingredients which stimulate these safe bacteria to grow at faster rates.

Additives generally fall into two categories, feed additives and manure additives.

Feed additives are generally used to:

  • Increase production
  • Decrease greenhouse gas emissions
  • Manure additives are generally used to:

  • Disrupt the breakdown of manure
  • Reduce foaming
  • Physical and Biochemical Stabilization
  • Newtrient Comments/Opinions:

Aquafix has recently been added to the Newtrient catalog. Newtrient will continue to work with Aquafix to further refine the cost and performance information on their solution. Newtrient will update this entry as more information becomes available and as new commercial dairy installations come online.
