ARTi – Pyrolysis Reactors

Cool Technologies to Cool the Planet

About the Company:

ARTi is a multidisciplinary company of mechanical engineers, agronomists, and studies in Biorenewable resources and Biosystems among other areas. Since 2013, their work at ARTi has been dedicated to implement innovative, sustainable, and renewable solutions.

ARTi is an international company that develops pyrolysis technologies, research and development projects, and carbon products through sustainable, healthy, and innovative processes. They manufacture and develop top-of-the line pyrolysis reactors to produce biochar, activated carbon, and “green” carbon black. Their mission is to demonstrate the value of biochar as a green technology able to sequester CO2 from the atmosphere and bring life back into the soils. ARTi develops complete, automated, and modular biochar production systems.

About the Solution:

ARTi’s biochar reactors are containerized, modular, and transportable systems that can house up to five pyrolysis trains per container. They manufacture and implement biochar systems which include reactors, dryers, handling that they modify to fit the client’s needs. Their reactors are customizable and scalable to help each of their clients find the right fit.

Solution Strengths, Weaknesses and Critical Indicators

    Pyrolysis:

    • May produce a soil amendment in the form of biochar or ash
    • Biochar does not yet have an established, stable commercial market
    • There is significant variation in energy use and recovery depending on feedstock
    • There is significant variation of operational intensity by site and by technology, many technologies require pairing with other technologies to offer a comprehensive manure management solution
    • There is significant variation of cost depending on site and by technology
    • Proven technology for phosphorous recovery, storage reduction, GHG reduction, odor control and pathogen reduction
    • This technology loses nitrogen to the atmosphere

    Newtrient Comments/Opinions:

ARTi has recently been added to the Newtrient catalog. Newtrient will continue to work with ARTi to further refine the cost and performance information on their solution. Newtrient will update this entry as more information becomes available and as new commercial dairy installations come online.
