Environmental Management Group International, Inc. – Engineering Solutions

About the Company:

Environmental Management Group International, Inc. (EMG), is dedicated to providing a wide range of environmental science and engineering services to private industry and government clients. Since 1996, EMG has provided the high-technology services our clients need to remain competitive in an ever-changing business environment. EMG has full-service capabilities in the environmental field. EMG strives to consistently deliver creative, high-quality, scientifically-based services to our clients on time and within budget.

About the Solution:

Today’s highly competitive business environment places emphasis on consistent regulatory compliance, low operational costs, small footprint, and energy efficiency. To address these specific needs, EMG has developed and perfected its Anaerobic Fluidized-Bed Digester (AFBD) technology. EMG's AFBD process removes 85% to 95% of biodegradable waste stream organics (BOD5 or COD) and converts them into usable biogas (CH4 and CO2), which can be used for on-site process heat or electricity, at low operational costs and with a compact and efficient plant design.

Newtrient Comments/Opinions:

Anaerobic Digester technology:

  • Is proven technology for odor, GHG and pathogen reduction and energy production
  • Has a long usable life and can be run reliably
  • Require proper preparation of the feedstock
  • Usually requires other technologies for energy utilization
  • Usually requires other technologies for digestate handling
  • Proper feeding & system monitoring is required to avoid system downtime
EMG International has installed fluidized bed anaerobic digesters on 5 dairies in the U.S.  Fluidized bed systems are scalable as demonstrated through EMG’s smallest dairy installation, a 250 cow dairy farm.  Fluidized anaerobic technology is best suited for dilute manure following sand separation and coarse solid liquid separation.  Proper sludge management is critical to avoid accumulation and clogging issues.

Newtrient will continue to work with EMG International to further refine the cost and performance information on the existing dairy farm anaerobic digesters.
