Mootral – Mootral Ruminant
Helping The World Produce Food That's Good For Us and Our Planet
About the Company:
Today, farmers are facing economic hardships and regulatory challenges unforeseen just a few decades ago. To support their future financial prosperity in a sustainable way, and one that meets the emerging needs for food safety of consumers, new thinking is needed. Mootral’s solutions are the result of that thinking.
Mootral is a British-Swiss AgriTech company that develops innovative solutions for companies and governments to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions as well as the usage of drugs like antibiotics in the agricultural sector.
Their first technology is Mootral Ruminant, a natural feed supplement that reduces methane emissions from cattle. They also offer solutions that reduce or eliminate the need to use antibiotics in monogastric livestock via improved gut health and reduced infection rates, resulting in a significantly higher profitability.
About the Solution:
Methane is naturally released by ruminants during their digestion in a process called enteric fermentation. While methane is the second most abundant greenhouse gas released into the atmosphere due to human activity, it is also 84 times more powerful than CO2 over the first 20 years of its molecular life.
Mootral Ruminant is a 100% natural feed supplement that reduces methane emissions from the enteric fermentation of ruminants. It is based on a proprietary combination of garlic and citrus extract and is produced in a pellet format.
Mootral’s research shows up to 38% reduction* of enteric methane emissions under real farm conditions (in vivo). Without impacting taste or texture of milk or meat, Mootral Ruminant can also help increase yields, animal health and reduce the number of flies. Additionally, carbon credits can help (co)finance the product costs.
